Recording Consent & Responsible Use

Last updated 29 July 2026

By using Debrief to record conversations, you agree to the following:

  1. You're responsible for consent. Before recording any conversation, you must inform all participants and obtain any consent required by law in your location and theirs. Recording laws vary — some places require only your consent, others require everyone's. It's on you to know which applies.
  2. Lawful use only. You won't use Debrief to record conversations you're not legally permitted to record, or in a way that violates any other party's privacy rights.
  3. Debrief is a tool, not a party to your conversations. We provide encrypted storage and transcription — we don't monitor what you record and can't verify consent was obtained. Responsibility for how you use recordings rests with you.
  4. You indemnify us. If a third party brings a claim against Debrief arising from your recording without proper consent, you agree to cover the resulting costs and damages.
  5. Your data stays encrypted. Recordings are encrypted before they leave your device — even we can't read them. This doesn't change your legal obligations to the people you record.
